Push a late correction through analysis, commentary and slides
For CFOs, controllers, FP&A teams, accountants and finance operations professionals
Everything for Finance teamsA figure changes the day before the board meeting. Learn to trace every place it is used, update the spreadsheet, commentary and slides together, and keep a record of what changed.
What you’ll be able to do
By the end, you can…
How it works
A tutor that meets you where you are
- Lessons that adapt to your levelSix lessons in two modules. Later lessons are written for your level as you reach them, so a newcomer to AI tools and an experienced reporting lead each get material that fits.
- An AI tutor you can ask anythingAsk questions about your own pack structure, a tricky chart or a prompt that is not working, typed or out loud, and get answers in the context of the lesson.
- Quizzes and flashcards for each lessonShort quizzes and flashcards tied to each lesson help you check that the steps have stuck, such as the order for propagating a correction or what to search for in a tie-out.
- Progress tracking and a certificateTrack where you are across the course and receive a certificate of completion when you finish.
Curriculum
The curriculum
The course follows one late correction from start to finish. Module 1 maps every use of the figure; Module 2 corrects it, verifies the pack and records the change.
Module 1Map Every Use of a Figure3 lessons
1Why a Corrected Figure Goes Stale Across the Pack
- Name the ways a figure can appear in a pack: linked cell, hard-coded value, derived figure, sentence, chart and slide text
- Spot which uses of a figure will not update when the source cell is corrected
- Decide which pack content may and may not be shared with a given AI tool
2Trace a Figure From Source Cell to Slide
- Trace a figure's dependent cells using the spreadsheet's precedent and dependent tools and cross-sheet links
- Find every commentary sentence and slide object that quotes or relies on the figure, including rounded and derived forms
- Build a usage map that lists location, current value, form and context for each use
3Use AI to Find Dependents, Then Check Its List
- Write a prompt that asks an AI tool to list dependent cells, sentences and slide objects with their locations and displayed values
- Check an AI-generated dependency list against the files to find missed items and items that do not exist
- Merge the checked AI output into the usage map, marking which entries were confirmed by hand
Module 2Correct, Verify and Record3 lessons
4Propagate the Correction Through Tables, Text and Charts
- Update the source figure and each dependent item in an order that avoids reworking
- Rewrite commentary sentences with the corrected and recalculated values, using AI to draft and checking every number
- Refresh or rebuild each affected chart according to whether it is linked, embedded or pasted as an image
- Flag sentences whose meaning may change with the new value for the commentary owner to decide
5Verify the Pack Agrees Before Release
- Run a tie-out check comparing the expected value with the displayed value for every row in the usage map
- Search the final files for the old value in all its forms and resolve every hit
- Use AI as a second-pass comparison and confirm its findings by hand
- Decide whether the pack is ready to release or what must be fixed first
6Write the Change Record
- Write a change record listing the old value, new value and location of each updated item
- State the reason for the correction as given by its source, without adding causes the evidence does not support
- Record who made each change and who checked it, with date and file version
- Prepare a short spoken explanation of the correction for the meeting
Who it’s for
Made for you if…
Made for: CFOs, controllers, FP&A teams, accountants and finance operations professionals
FP&A analysts who build the numbers behind the pack
You fix the spreadsheet quickly, but need a reliable way to make sure the commentary and slides follow.
Reporting leads who own the management pack or board materials
You need to know the released pack agrees everywhere and be able to explain any late change to the board.
Finance team members new to using AI for finance work
You want to use an AI tool to find dependents and draft updates, while checking its output and keeping sensitive data out of unapproved tools.
Questions
Good to know
How long does the course take?
It is designed as a focused course of about two hours, self-paced, across six lessons.
What do I need before I start?
Working knowledge of spreadsheet formulas, cell references and links between sheets; experience preparing or reviewing a management pack or board presentation; and access to your pack files and an AI tool your organisation has approved for finance data.
Which AI tool does the course use?
The course works with the AI tool your organisation has approved. It does not cover choosing, configuring or comparing AI tools or vendors.
How does the course handle confidential data?
It covers deciding which pack content may and may not be shared with a given AI tool, and keeping customer identifiers, account credentials and nonpublic reporting information out of unapproved cloud tools.
Does it cover reconciliations or finding out why the figure changed?
No. Building reconciliations, booking correcting entries, and variance or root-cause analysis are outside this course. The change record states the reason for the correction as given by its source, without adding causes the evidence does not support.
Will it teach me slide design?
Only as far as the slides affected by the correction: refreshing or rebuilding charts depending on whether they are linked, embedded or pasted as images. General slide design and storytelling are not covered.
